CAPI Act
The Commercial Agents and Private Inquiry Agents Act NSW came into being in 2004. This law means that if you are a Mercantile Agent you must apply for an Operator licence in all licensable activities that you undertake: i.e. Process Serving, Debt Collection and Repossession of Goods.
To obtain your licence you must successfully complete the Certificate III in Mercantile Agents qualification.
Course Delivery and Costs
The Mercantile course can be delivered in a variety of flexible methods including:
- Recognition of past work experience and prior learning
- Course work by correspondence
- On-line learning
- Case Studies and
- Recognition of current work skills
The course can be accessed under government funded New and Existing Worker Traineeships for eligible staff. Partially funded courses may be available for business owners under the NSW Department of Educations Strategic Skills Program. The College is offering a qualification structure that meets the CAPI legislation obligations for ALL Operator Licences.
The programme would deliver streams that cover the units of competency required i.e.:
- Core units for all licensee requirements
- Debt Collection
- Process Serving
- Repossession of Goods
Participants will be able to select any or all of these streams.
The College was a proud sponsor of the Institute of Mercantile Agents annual conference in Sydney earlier this year.
James and Lisa were asked to present to the conference on the topic of "Achieving Competency Based Qualifications".
The College launched its Master Licence TRUST ACCOUNTING course at the Institute of Mercantile Agents annual conference in Sydney.
